France’s interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said Sunday several hundred tombs had been defaced at a Jewish cemetery in the northeast of the country, Agence France-Presse reported.
The incident had occurred in the town of Sarre-Union in the Alsace region, as close to 400 tombs were defaced.
“The country will not tolerate this new injury which goes against the values that all French people share,” said Cazeneuve. “Every effort will be made to identify, question and bring to justice the person or persons responsible for this despicable act.”
And French Prime Minister Manuel Valls described this incident as “anti-Semitic and ignoble,” Lenta reported.
