Director General of Amensty International Italy Gianni Rufin has sent a letter to Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi asking to raise the question of human rights during his planned meeting with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, Italian branch of Amnesty International reported.
A report prepared by Amnesty International condemning the sentence of more than 20 political prisoners and other human rights violations has been attached to the letter.
The letter says at least 20 jorunalists, lawyers, activists of youth movements and oppositon activits were arrested and sentenced during 12 months preceeding the European Games. He recalls that Amnesty International experts, as well as The Guardian, Radio France International and ARD reporters, were deprived of the right to enter the country ahead of Games.
