YEREVAN. – If an audit of the Electric Networks of Armenia is transparent, the electricity price may go down, secretary of Heritage parliamentary group Tevan Poghosyan said.

He noted that audit is not only about calculations, but the study of company's management system and inspection of the quality of services provided by the company.

“It is necessary to understand the essence of 250 million debt. Bibin [director general of Electric Networks -ed.] is not the only one to blame,” Poghosyan emphasized.

Speaking about the streets protests that continued for more than 10 days, the MP said it was “awakening for government’s machine”.

“If the young people are concerned over the system, they have to form expert groups to participate in the audit,” he added.

The wave of protests broke out in Armenia’s capital Yerevan following the decision to increase electricity prices by 7 drams. 

In a statement made on the sixth day of demonstrations in Yerevan on June 27, the Armenian leader said the government will absorb electricity price hike before the end of evaluation conducted by an international company.
