YEREVAN. – If the new draft Constitution of Armenia is adopted, the country’s citizens will vote as to who will be in Parliament.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction member Artak Davtyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am. He stated this in response to the query on whether there are guarantees that there will be solely “productive” deputies in the new NA.

“The voter decides; the [election] list doesn’t matter,” said the RPA MP. “I believe this because specifically the voter forms the voting system.

“And it is believed that the proportional [representation] elections will be conducted with a rating format; this already means that if a corresponding MP garners the necessary number of votes, we will see him in Parliament.”

Chapters 1 through 7 of the new draft Constitution of Armenia were made public on July 15. Accordingly, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance. In addition, the new draft Constitution specifies a completely proportional voting system.
