Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, before his working visit to Georgia, stopped over at Armenia’s Bagratashen checkpoint on the border with Georgia.

The PM toured the inspection post, and got familiarized with the ongoing construction at the site. Those in charge of this project reported that the new checkpoint is expected to be put into operation by March 2016.

Modern inspection and control equipment will be installed at the new inspection post. In addition, human intervention will be brought to a minimum, and people will be able to pass this border checkpoint at the shortest amount of time.

Abrahamyan, speaking to reporters, underscored the implementation of this project, and noted that as a result, Armenia will have a border checkpoint that meets international norms.

The Premier was also briefed on the construction process for the Friendship Bridge to be built at the Bagratashen border inspection post. The bridge is expected to improve the quality of passenger and cargo transportation, and save time.

A total of US$70 million will be invested for the modernization of Armenia’s Bagratashen, Bavra, and Gogavan checkpoints on the border with Georgia. The Armenian government is implementing this project in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and several other international organizations.
