YEREVAN. – The growth in Armenia’s economic activity is noticeable.
Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan, who is also the Minister of International Economic Integration and Reforms, noted the abovementioned at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.
He recalled that, according to statistics, the country’s economic activity index has increased by 4.2 percent, in the first half of the current year.
“[But] many in the society may ask where that economic growth is, and why it isn’t visible in the everyday life of the ordinary people [in the country],” noted Gabrielyan. “I want to assure [you] that the difference is already noticeable here.
“The reduction in private remittances [to Armenia] from abroad had a direct impact on the situation.
“As a result, the purchasing power of the [country’s] population reduced, and people judge the situation in the country by retail trade, first of all.”
In addition, as per Gabrielyan, even though employment in Armenia fell by 1 to 2 percentage points, this is due to seasonal factors.
“As a result, economic activity is noticeable even with calculating the reduction in remittances,” concluded the deputy PM.
