The number of those infected with Zika virus has exceeded 47,000 in Columbia, the Columbian National Institute of Health reports.

By the end of February, the authorities confirmed that 42,000 people had the disease.

According to the statement of the doctors, the number of those infected constitutes 47,771 people, including 8890 pregnant women.

Now Columbia is the second country in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin after Brazil by the number of those infected with Zika virus, RIA Novosti reports.

Despite the number of those infected, the doctors have recorded only one possible case of Zika-related microcephaly, as well as three deaths of patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome, who were earlier diagnosed with Zika virus.
