World-renowned Armenian French singer Charles Aznavour will give a concert in Prague on April 6, the Czech Hospodarske Noviny daily reports.

He was going to give a concert in the capital of the former Czechoslovakia almost half a century ago after the 1968 August events, the singer said in an interview with the newspaper. However, the concert was canceled after the suicide of student demonstrator Yan Palach.

“The organizers cancelled it, maybe someone from the authorities. They didn’t consider it right for someone to sing in such a situation. Someone gave me this explanation, and at that time I knew very little on what was behind this. 

But after that I visited Prague several times and played in two films in your country. One was Father Goriot, the second being an English or an American film. I’m sorry for forgetting: I have played in more than 80 films, and it’s difficult to remember all of them,” the singer said.
