At least 70 people were killed as a result of a suicide bombing in the Pakistani city of Lahore, 29 of them were children, local mass media reported.

Earlier deputy police Commissioner Mohammad Usman said that the number of injured exceeded 190.

The explosion occurred on Sunday morning in the area of the parking lot next to the park Gulshan-I-Iqbal in the city center a few meters from a children's playground with swings, BBC Russian Service reported.

Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the attack and the Taliban's representative stressed that the action was deliberately carried out in a part of town where many Christians live.

All hospitals in Lahore were put on an emergency footing. The army was brought for the safety in the region.

Regional authorities declared mourning that will last for three days.
