US President Barack Obama has declined from a one-on-one meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who will be in the US in the coming days, to attend the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington D.C., according to The Wall Street Journal.

In addition, Obama has turned down Erdoğan’s request to join him for the inauguration of a Turkish-funded mosque in the State of Maryland, and the US president has no plans for a formal one-on-one meeting with his Turkish counterpart, who is a vital ally in the fight against Islamic State, US officials told The Wall Street Journal.

Senior US administration officials, however, said the decision not to meet Erdoğan while he is in Washington should not be taken as a slight.
