YEREVAN. – The Armenian side at the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly (PA) succeeded in removing several unwanted wordings in the draft report regarding the EU and Eastern Partnership countries’ position on foreign policy and threats.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Artak Zakaryan, who also heads the Armenian National Assembly delegation to the EuroNest PA, on Tuesday told the aforesaid to reporters in Parliament. He stated this summing up—together with other delegation members—the results of the recent EuroNest PA session in Brussels.

In his words, the Georgian delegates had made two proposals, which stressed the importance of territorial integrity and the inadmissibility of “occupied territories” in Eastern Partnership countries.

“[But] at the session, our Georgian colleagues agreed to remove those wordings from the text,” Zakaryan said.

The Ukrainian delegation, on the other hand, had issued a statement regarding aggression in “occupied territories” and the need for withdrawing troops from there. After detailed explanations, however, the Ukrainian delegation likewise agreed to remove such wordings.

“[And] the socialists’ faction made a proposal, which had a call for ensuring Turkey’s participation in the dialogue on [Nagorno-]Karabakh,” Artak Zakaryan added. “[But] from the very beginning it was clear to everyone that the proposal is from the comedy genre and it can’t be adopted. The proposal was rejected in the voting, and other wordings were adopted.”
