YEREVAN. – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) statements on Nagorno-Karabakh need to have an addressee.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Artak Zakaryan, who is also Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, on Wednesday stated the aforementioned during a reception—in capital city Yerevan—devoted to the German OSCE Chairmanship in 2016.

In his words, the OSCE consistently seeks to ensure peace and stability, including in the South Caucasus, but Azerbaijan violates the ceasefire on a regular basis, and refuses to withdraw its snipers.

As per Zakaryan, these incidents have become more frequent, and that is why the mechanisms for investigating these incidents will help prevent them and contribute to the achieving of progress in the Karabakh peace talks.

“We [i.e. the Armenian side] consider important the OSCE’s consistent policy and targeted approach when assessing the actions of Azerbaijan,” the MP stressed. “Time shows that Azerbaijan is distant from the intent to self-regulation and it doesn’t even hide it. Such violations by Azerbaijan give the OSCE the ground to respond tougher; this is indispensable for establishing peace in the region.”

The Armenian deputy noted that despite the current difficulties in the Karabakh negotiation process, the Azerbaijani snipers can be withdrawn with one order.

“The fact that Azerbaijan doesn’t do that shows its belligerent inclination,” Artak Zakaryan added. “But Armenia continues supporting, within the framework of international platforms, the fulfillment of the objectives of the OSCE.”
