German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) will invest €200 million to fight sex abuse of women and children in refugee camps, The Local reported quoting the statement of the ministry.

According to the federal authority, the allocated funds will be used for re-equipment of camps for migrants. With these funds the municipal authorities plan to build separate facilities for women and children, where they will be protected from sex violence.

“Many of the women in the camps are scared to speak out about what is happening - many of them are for example scared to be sent back home because of it”, the Ministry for Families, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) spokesperson Verena Herb said.

According to Die Welt, one German refugee camp recorded 15 cases of sexual assault in a month.
