YEREVAN. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has today received the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman.

At the outset of the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues related to the stability and security in the region.

Sargsyan briefed Jeffrey Feltman on the situation on the Line of Contact, noting that his visit has coincided with such hard times when the stability of the region is once again imperiled.

The President stressed that after the establishment of peace in 1994, Azerbaijan unleashed military actions yet another time violating the fundamental principal of non-use of force or threat to use force. In this context, Sargsyan attached importance to the presence of the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs in the region.

According to the Armenian President, Jeffrey Feltman’s visit to Armenia and other countries of the region will give an opportunity to get a precise and clear idea on the situation formed.

For his part, Feltman noted that the UN stands for the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, stressing the role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs as an agreed format for peaceful settlement.

The meeting also addressed the Armenian-UN cooperation. In Feltman’s words, the UN attaches importance to the role which Armenia plays  in the organization, specifically in terms of implementing the UN Charter and principles.   

Serzh Sargsyan reconfirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue its active involvement in the activity of the UN and its institutions. In the framework of Armenia-UN cooperation, the sides attached importance to the UNDP project on the modernization of the border crossing points in Armenia as a good example of cooperation.
