YEREVAN. – President Obama made a very strong and powerful statement, US Ambassador Richard Mills on Sunday told reporters at the Armenian Genocide Memorial, in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

In response to the query on his view regarding the fact that US President Barack Obama did not keep his promise and again did not use the word “genocide” in his annual April 24 statement, the American diplomat noted that the US President qualified the incidents as one of the worst atrocities in the 20th century.

Mills stated that the President Obama remains faithful to the commitment which all of us seek: full, complete and fair recognition of the events. He added that the US President continues to remain faithful in working in this direction, so that the events are recognized in a full and complete manner.

To the remark as to perhaps the US President does not wish to deteriorate relations with Turkey, the ambassador responded that Obama noted that his objective is the truth and reconciliation between the two societies, and that he remains faithful to this commitment.
