YEREVAN. – Qatar Airways’ entry into the aviation market of Armenia will intensify and develop Armenia-Qatar economic cooperation, including in the tourism industry.

Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan noted the abovementioned during his talk Monday with Hugh Dunleavy,  Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer.

Press Office of the Government of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the PM said the aviation sector  of the country has been liberalized since 2013, and informed that the Armenian government has reviewed the existing legal framework with respect to air communication with more than twenty countries. Abrahamyan added that talks are underway toward Armenia joining the European Common Aviation Area.

Dunleavy, for his part, noted that Qatar Airways stands ready to conduct four weekly flights between Doha and Yerevan, thus linking Armenia to more than 150 cities in the world. As per the Qatar Airways official, they wish to expand the activities of this state-owned flag carrier of Qatar, and this will help deepen and expand Armenia-Qatar cooperation.
