During the work at a farm the Chile farmers suddenly found mummies of women and two children, La Tercera reports. The mummies are about 900 years old.

The workers were cultivating the land as usual, when they suddenly came across an ancient burial place, where ceramic items and children’s toys were also found.  

According to the archaeologists, they belong to the pre-Columbian culture, whose representatives lived in the territory of the Chilean Atamaka region from 1000 to 1400, TASS reports.

In the experts’ words, the discovered mummies were well-preserved thanks to the fabric from lama fur and plant fibers, in which the bodies of the deceased were rolled. According to the preliminary assessment, the children died at the age of 5-7, while the woman was 50-60 years old.

This is the first similar archaeological discovery made in Atamaka. Now the mummies are still at the exhibition site, but they will soon be moved to the Chilean capital for a more thorough examination.
