A wounded elephant in Zimbabwe pleaded for help from people, Gazeta reports, citing The Telegraph.

Ben, a bull elephant, was shot by a poacher. The animal approached the Bumi Hills Safari Lodge tourist complex, whose manager noticed that the elephant had a limp and appeared to be seriously injured.

Unfortunately there was no vet at the lodge (he had gone for the weekend).  But another specialist agreed to fly 200 miles (approx. 322 km) to provide medical assistance to Ben.  The doctor arrived in six hours. All that time, the wounded elephant patiently waited for him.  

After tranquillizing Ben, it was discovered that the elephant had indeed been shot. It remains unknown when Ben was wounded. The animal now wears a tracking device so that people can track his health.

The elephant was named after the man who first provided medical assistance to it.
