Ivan  Aivazovsky’s painting “An Ottoman Coffee-House in the Moonlight” was sold at the auction of Christie's in London for 194,500 pounds (about $280,000) , two other works of the artist were sold for158,500 and 110,500, RIA Novosti reported quoting the representative of the auction house.

An estimate of “An Ottoman Coffee-House in the Moonlight” made 200-300 thousand pounds.

Representatives of the house stated that according to the result of the first trading session of the Russian paintings at the Christie’s house reached 1.9 million pounds. Also two drawings done by  Aivazovsky “Shipwreck” and “View of the Saladin Citadel from the banks of the Nile” were sold for 158,500 and 110,500 pounds.

Two sketches for the ballet “Sleeping Beauty” done by Leon Bakst – “Wolf” and “Prince Charmant at the Court” went for 92.500 and 37.500 respectively.

Konstantin Somov's work “Landscape with a Rainbow” went for 84,100 pounds with an estimate of 15-25 thousand pounds, while the lot from a cover of the auction’s catalogueAlexandre Benois's water color painting “Versailles: The King walked in any weather” went for 140,500 pounds exceeding the estimate ten times.
