The last known dog rescuing people on September 11, 2001 in New York has died.

According to the Associated Press, a golden retriever Brittany died in veterinary clinic in the suburb of Houston, Texas. It was 16 years old, Gazeta reported.

The dog was two years old when she together with the trainer Denise Corliss went to New York as part of the Texas task force number one. They spent ten days at the site of the attacks.

At the age of nine Brittany retired. Several years later Corliss and Brittany visited the memorial devoted to the victims of acts of terrorism on September 11, 2001 and also gave an interview to NBC News.
