A South African court ordered a white woman to pay a fine of 150,000 rand (about $ 10,000) for the public racist statements, which caused outrage of the black majority and threats to kill the whites and to expel them from the country, Reuters reported.
On her Facebook page former estate agent Penny Sparrow called the blacks “wild monkeys” because they left mountains of garbage after New Year's celebration on the Durban beaches.
“Her words convey the message both explicitly and implicitly to the reader that black people are not worthy of being described as human beings,” Umzinto Equality Court Magistrate Irfaan Khalil stated. He ordered Sparrow to pay the fine within 60 days.
Her interests in the court were represented by her daughter who declared that her mother was sick and feared for her life. The official opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA) which enjoys the support of white minority. revoked her membership.
The ruling African National Congress welcomed the court's decision. “It is unfortunate that 22 years into democracy, racists are emboldened to vent their views on public platforms. This judgment serves as a reminder that such behavior will not be tolerated,” the statement of the congress says.
