The English bulldogs is in danger of extinction. Such a conclusion was made by American researchers, whose findings were published in Canine Genetics and Epidemiology journal , reports the TASS.

DNA analyses made on 139 dogs indicate a lack of genetic diversity in that breed . This minimizes the chances of selectionists to create healthier phenotype on the basis of the existing gene pool. The scientists believe that the cause of the problem is originally a small quantity of those types of dogs. There still exists certain phenotypic and genetic diversity, but it is unclear whether it is sufficient to recover those species, the researchers note.
