The archaeologists have discovered the tomb of the Mayan leader in Shunantunich, Western Belize, at around 5-8 meters depth.  Apart from the remains of human bones, they also found nephrite and pottery there.

According to the researchers the size and contents of the tomb pinpoint to  the rank of the buried. The preliminary study of the remains identified the buried as a middle-aged man .

As the Telegraf reports, that excavations in Shunantunich have been going since 1890s. That site is officially known as the Mayan cultural monument. There are 25 palaces and temples in the ancient city, the most famous of which is 40 -meter El Castillo , as well as 6 different squares.
