The Supreme Court of Israel issues a verdict about seizing Franz Kafka's manuscripts from the private owners, reports the Associated Press. The announcement of the National Library of Israel makes it clear that the court rules the Library as a "preferred destination " for the preservation of the writer's unpublished works. The library also promises to make the manuscripts accessible for a large audience.
It is known that Kafka burnt about 90 percent of his works. Before the writer dies he leaves a letter addressed to Max Brod . In that letter Kafka asks him to destroy the rest of his manuscripts . Brod does not fulfill his request , thanks to which there are published " The Trial", " The Castle ", "America " novels , Kafka's diary entries and letters .
In 1939 Brod fleeds from Prague to Palestine due to Nazi persecution. He later transfers two -thirds of the manuscripts to the library of Oxford. The rest of the manuscripts become the subject of proceedings. Brod inherits the manuscripts to his secretary , Esther Hoffein. In 2007 when she dies her literary collection pass to her daughters.
