An alligator nearly took off hand of a woman standing on a dock in Florida. The victim with big loss of blood was hospitalized in critical condition, ABC News reported.

The incident occurred in a fish camp in the Everglades near Fort Lauderdale where it is possible to reach only by boat or helicopter.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles says the 49-year-old woman dropped a can from a dock and was bitten by a 4- to 5-foot gator as she reached down to the water to get it .

According to the officer, the woman has a serious injury, she almost lost her right hand
