France wants to deport an Armenian family that is an offspring of mixed Armenian-Azerbaijani families, reported Courrier Picard newspaper of France.

There are three children in the Sianosyan family, which has no citizenship. The Amiens city prefecture wants to deport them to Azerbaijan, informed Marcel Dekervel, a member of the “Education Network without Borders” (RESF) NGO, which protects the rights of this family.

Sevak and Anahit, the parents, are born into Azerbaijani and Armenian mixed families that had gone to Russia in the 1990s. There, Sevak and Anahit grew up without documents; even after their marriage and the birth of their first two children—the last one, Leah, was born in France.

In 2013, they were forced to leave Russia, and they took refuge in France, the newspaper wrote. But the French authorities have refused their request to be granted asylum.

And since June 2, 2016, they live in France illegally, and they are under an obligation to leave the country.

The aforesaid NGO has defended the Sianosyan, and petitioned to a civil court to revoke this decision.  

“The public rapporteur has indicated that the expulsion of this family to Azerbaijan was not possible, since they don’t have this [i.e. Azerbaijani] citizenship,” noted Dekervel.

The court decision will be made within several weeks. Meanwhile, the family will have to find a new housing because they will be evicted from their temporary shelter in mid-September.
