Over the weekend Italian Coast Guard rescued nearly 3,500 illegal migrants in the Mediterranean Sea, Interfax reported quoting European mass media.
On 10 September, 2,300 people were rescued by 18 ships sailing in the direction of Italy.
The next day, 1,100 more migrants who were trying to reach Italy from Libya by the overloaded boats were saved.
