A new group of Ukrainian deputies has joined the draft decision on recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

Ukrainian deputies from various factions and deputy groups have joined MP Vitaly Barvinenko’s legislative initiative on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

According to Genocide.org.ua, the draft has been joined by Ukrainian MPs Dmitry Svyatash (Revival Party deputy group), Mykhailo Dobkin and Dmitry Dobkin (Opposition Bloc).   

Head of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine (UAU) Vilen Shatvoryan told  Genocide.org.ua: “We are very grateful to the national deputies of Ukraine for their commitment to justice.”

Earlier, the document  had been joined by Ukrainian MPs Alexander Presman (Revival Party), David Makaryan (Petro Poroshenko Bloc), as well as Nikolay Knyazhitsky , Irina Yefremova, Igor Brichenko, Anatoliy Diriv, Gennadiy Krivosheya, Alexander Kirsh, Igor Kotvitsky, Vadim Pidbereznyak and Valery Lunchenko from People’s Party faction.

On 6 June 2013, Ukriane’s Verkhovna Rada introduced a draft decision on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. The initiators of No 2254 bill are the Ukrainian national MPs Vilen Shatvoryan, Arsen Avakov and Never Mkhitaryan.
