The Saudi billionaire, the king's cousin, Al-Waleed Bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia, has called for ending the existing ban on women’s driving. He wrote about it on his Twitter page.
"Preventing a woman from driving a car today is an issue of rights similar to the one that forbade her from receiving an education or having an independent identity," he wrote. According to him, such a ban is a result of unfair treatment in a traditional society, that limits women more, than it is legally established by religion.
In Saudi Arabia, where the legislation is based on the principles of Sharia, women are forbidden to drive a car.
