The UN Security Council on Thursday convened an open discussion devoted to the nonproliferation and use of weapons of mass destruction. 

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, also delivered remarks at this event.

In particular, Mnatsakanyan noted that Armenia attaches great importance to nuclear safety issues.

The permanent representative to the UN added that Armenia actively cooperates with the Security Council Resolution 1540Committee. This resolution was adopted unanimously on April 28, 2004, regarding the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

He also stressed that Armenia is actively involved in several programs aimed at nonproliferation of weapons.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan added that the Armenian government carries out continued work in the fight against the smuggling of nuclear materials.
