YEREVAN. - ARF-Dashnaktsutyun considers the recognition of the independence of Artsakh as a strategic step towards the pan-Armenian unification.

ARF-D representative, Giro Maroyan, said the aforementioned on Monday at the debate between the parties and alliances participating in the country’s parliamentary elections.

In Manoyan’s words, the most important step which ARF-D mentioned was the need for concluding an agreement on cooperation between Armenia and Artsakh, which may become a step towards the recognition of Arstakh by Armenia. The issue should be solved by peaceful means. But Azerbaijan should not necessarily agree. We see various examples in the world, when the issue is solved like that, considering the obstinate reluctance of one of the sides to compromise,” Maniyan said.

To the question as to whether this can cause war, the ARF-D representative noted that Azerbaijan doesn’t resort to war not because Armenia hasn’t recognized Artsakh, but because it isn’t sure it will win. Referring to the Madrid Principles, Manoyan noted that he agrees with their grounds but not with their conclusions, that is to say he doesn’t agree with the possibility of territorial concessions.
