U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson did not ease tensions between U.S. and Turkey after holding tense talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on issues ranging from the Syrian conflict to the extradition of a Turkish cleric, Fethullah Gulen, Financial Times reported.

According to Turkish officials, for Ankara, hoping to reboot the relations with Washington after election of president Donald Trump, Tillerson's visit was disappointing. They noted that the trip hardly served to the solution of problems in the relations.

As the article said, tension was evident at a press conference Tillerson held with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The U.S. Secretary of State evaded   the questions about the support provided to the Kurds.

“While Tillerson did not confirm a final decision by Washington to reject the Turkish military’s offer to help liberate Raqqa, Turkish officials have seethed for weeks about the apparent inevitability of the U.S. backing the YPG to lead the offensive,” the article noted.
