History and state-building of U.S. and Karabakh have much in common

On November 19, President of Nagorno-Karabakh Bako Sahakyan delivered a speech at the World Affairs Council of Orange County and answered the questions of the attendees.

Armenia’s Consul General in Los Angeles Grigor Hovhannisyan, head of the Central information department of the Artsakh Republic President’s Office Davit Babayan, NKR permanent representative to the U.S. Robert Avetisyan, chairman of the Artsakh Public TV and Radio Norek Gasparyan and other officials participated in the event, NKR presidential press service informed NEWS.am.

On the same day President Sahakyan visited Los Angeles City Council to hold meetings with the members and Council’s president Eric Garcetti.

The NKR leader also attended the City Council’s meeting and addressed its members, expressing gratitude to the authorities of Los Angeles for their stance towards our compatriots and assistance provided in solving issues the Armenian people face.

Welcoming the NKR President, council members stressed importance of existence of independent, free and democratic Karabakh. According to them, Artsakh and the U.S. have much in common in their history and state building. It creates good prospects for developing and deepening of bilateral relations.  

Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Pargev Martirosian, Grigor Hovhannisyan, Lincy Foundation Vice President Harut Sassounian and other officials participated in the events.

On November 19, Bako Sahakyan also visited residency of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church and met its primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, members of the Diocesan Council and representatives of the local Armenian community.

The President considered important the construction of a new St. Leon Cathedral noting that the church was not only a masterpiece of Armenian architecture, but would also play a significant role in preserving national identity in the Diaspora.

Issues related to socioeconomic situation in Artsakh and Motherland-Diaspora relations were touched upon during the meeting.
