YEREVAN. - Not possessing assessment mechanisms, the Armenian Government conducted no realistic assessment of the Amulsar mines and adopted a decision without considering this, member of the Pan-Armenian Environmental Front (PAEF) Levon Galstyan told journalists on Tuesday.

In his words, the funds flowing into the state budget are of much greater importance for the authorities than the environmental harm inflicted as a result of the work carried out in the mines. According to the environmentalist, such an approach is wrong.

“If Armenia starts conducting assessment, considering the mechanisms of environmental harm, no mine will be used but for the Kajaran mine, since the economic inappropriateness of their further activity due to the high level of damage caused by them will be proved,” Galstyan noted.
