The world's longest glass pedestrian bridge will be opened in Hebei Province in eastern China on December 24, TASS reports citing China Daily.

As the newspaper notes, the length of the bridge will be 488 meters, and the width - about two meters. It connects two mountain peaks in Hunyagu in Pingshan County and is built at an altitude of 218 meters above the valley below. The bridge is packed with 1,077 glass panels with a thickness of about 4 cm, the total weight of which reaches 70 tons.

The design allows it to withstand the weight of about 2 thousand people, but the representative of the operator said that at the same time only 500 visitors will be allowed to simultaneously sit on it.

Earlier, the title of the longest glass bridge in the world was given to a bridge in the Zhangjiajie National Park (central Hunan province). The length of the bridge designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan, is 430 meters, width - six meters. It connects two mountains at an altitude of about 300 meters. Before the presentation of the bridge to demonstrate its strength, a whole show was organized - a two-ton truck passed through the glass construction, and the glass floor tried to be torn apart with a sledge hammer.
