YEREVAN. – Lebanon President Michel Aoun’s visit to Armenia will give a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan noted the aforementioned at Thursday’s joint briefing with visiting Lebanese President Michel Aoun, in capital city Yerevan.
The Armenian President said their meeting took place in a warm atmosphere, a substantive discussion of relations had taken place, and the sides confirmed their readiness to continue the deepening and strengthening of relations.
Also, the parties noted that strong ties were established in several domains.
In Sargsyan’s words, Lebanon’s representation in Armenia is noticeable in numerous domains.
“More than 100 years have passed since the tragic days of Armenian Genocide,” Serzh Sargsyan stated, in particular. “But there are events that don’t have a statute of limitations.” And he thanked the Lebanese authorities and people for helping the genocide survivors.
The President of Armenia reflected also on the present-day situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria; in this connection, he recalled that Armenia renders assistance to its Syrian brothers.
“We [Armenia] are glad that we were able to contribute to the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon,” added the Armenian President.
At the end of the joint briefing, Serzh Sargsyan informed that he invited Michel Aoun to the International Organisation of La Francophonie Summit, which Armenia’s capital city Yerevan will host in October.
