Many famous actors, singers and politicians passed away in 2018. Illnesses, age, car accidents, murders took the lives of many famous people who will be long remembered for their considerable contribution to the history.

Charles Aznavour

Famous French-Armenian singer and composer Charles Aznavour passed away on October 1, 2018. Time named him one of the best singers of the 20th century. During his fabulous career, he recorded 1300 songs, sold 200 million CDs and played in 60 films. The son of migrants, Aznavour had strong ties to his historic homeland, being Armenia's ambassador to Switzerland.

Aznavour dedicated songs to Armenia and was UNESCO's honorary ambassador to Armenia.

Ara Guler

The famous Turkish photographer of Armenian origin Ara Guler was better known as the “Eye of Istanbul” died at the age of 90.

Araa Guler was among the seven best photographers in the world. Among the heroes of his photos are politicians Winston Churchill and Indira Gandhi, actors Marlon Brando and Sophia Loren, filmmaker Federico Fellini and other celebrities.

Stephen Hawking

The world famous British physicist Stephen Hawking died on March 14, 2018 at the age of 76. The cause of death was complications due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which was diagnosed back in 1963. Then the scientist lost the ability to speak and began to use a speech synthesizer.

However, the imperfection of the body and the disease did not prevent him from becoming one of the most famous scientists of our time.

Friends and colleagues from the University of Cambridge paid tribute to Professor Stephen Hawking, on March 21. He was buried in Westminster Abbey near the grave of the scientist Isaac Newton.

Montserrat Caballe

The world famous Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballe died on October 6 in Barcelona’s Sant Pau hospital.

On October 8, the 85-year-old singer was buried in Barcelona  in the cemetery of Sant Andreu

Montserrat Caballe is considered one of the best sopranos of the 20th century. She is known for her bel canto technique and brilliant performance of Italian operas by Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti.

George H. W. Bush

The 41st President George W. Bush passed away at the age of 94 on November 30. He had serious health problems and was hospitalized several times.

The ex-president of the United States was buried next to his wife Barbara, who died in April of this year, and their daughter Robin, who died of leukemia at the age of three in 1953.

Prior to that, a memorial service was held in Washington.

Kofi Annan

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan died in a Swiss hospital after a short illness.

He served as UN Secretary General from January 1, 1997 to December 31, 2006. In 2001, Kofi Annan and the UN were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Kofi Annan passed away surrounded by his family - his wife Nane and their three children.
