China will limit the import of scrap steel and aluminum from July 1, Reuters reported referring to the Chinese Ministry of Environment.

According to the statement, scrap steel and aluminum will be excluded from the unlimited list of imports of solid waste used as raw materials, and added to the list of restricted imports.

Relevant departments are developing standards for recycled copper and aluminum. Copper and aluminum raw materials that meet relevant national standards will not be considered solid waste and can be imported as regular goods.

Restrictions on waste imports are part of the war on pollution, launched in 2017, which aims to clean up the economy and encourage domestic firms to recycle.
