The pyramids of Giza, the culture of the Egyptian pharaohs were virtually deserted as Egypt’s unrest negatively affected the country’s tourism, a pillar of the economy during the recent months.

“Just two dozen foreign tourists visited marvelous pyramids on Sunday, where thousands of tourists gathered daily before demonstrators launched the unrest that toppled Egypt’s strongman Hosni Mubarak,” the msnbc says.

Egypt is calm now, despite a surge in labor protests after the resignation of Egypt’s leader Hosni Mubarak.

“Officials are trying to give a new impetus to an industry that employs over 2 m Egyptians, saying “all Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and modern sites” reopened in the country. Six museums in Cairo, as well as Luxor and Aswan on the Nile river reopened,” the website reports.
