US immigration services detained 680 people on Wednesday for allegedly violating migration laws in the state of Mississippi in the south of the country, AP reported. 

According to him, the raids became the largest since 2008, when, by order of George W. Bush, the operation was carried out in Iowa. All detainees in Mississippi are Hispanic and have worked in food factories.

A large-scale action is expected to be a big blow to individual companies and the state economy as a whole.

Bryan Cox, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said search warrants were executed at seven locations across Mississippi, targeting several companies. 

According to the agency, the raids took place just a few hours before the arrival of US President Donald Trump in El Paso, where a 21-year-old white man opened fire at a Walmart store in the Cielo Vista shopping center in El Paso on August 3. A total of 22 people were killed, including eight Mexicans, over 20 visitors were injured, while the attacker was detained by the police.
