Russian serviceman has shot dead eight soldiers and injured at least two more on a military base in the Chita Region, Interfax reported referring to Defense Ministry.

Among the dead there are conscript soldiers, TASS reported.

Firing was opened by a military soldier. The shooter is detained. His name is not officially disclosed.

The Defense Ministry said that a military man could shoot his colleagues because of a nervous breakdown caused by personal reasons and unrelated to the service.
