The Iraqi parliament approved by a majority vote the resignation of Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi on Sunday, MigNews reported.

A total of 241 MPs voted for the decision.

The speaker of the parliament read out Mahdi's letter of resignation. No one spoke out against the corresponding decision.

According to the speaker, they will appeal to the president of the republic to nominate a new PM proceeding from the Iraqi constitution.

The president of the country should entrust the formation of the cabinet of ministers to a nominee from the party bloc, which has a majority in the Council of Representatives. Until the process is completed, Mahdi will continue to perform his duties.
