At least 60 children were abused by the founder of the Catholic Order of the Legion of Christ, Martial Maciel, BBC News reported referring to an investigation.

According to a report published by the Catholic Church, since the foundation of the Order in 1941, at least 175 minors have been sexually abused by 33 clergy.

In 2006, Maciel was ordered to resign due to charges. He died aged 87, and never presented himself to his accusers.

As for the remaining 33 clergymen, who were charged with similar charges, six of them died, and did not appear before the court, one was convicted, another is awaiting a verdict and is already deprived of dignity. The other 18 clergymen are still working in the church, but they were suspended from missions related to communion with the flock.

The report notes that the reparation process will begin with 45 victims of 'Werewolves in Cassocks.'
