Armenian Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan’s lawyer Amram Makinyan commented on the latest statements of Venice Commission President and PACE co-rapporteurs on tensions in Armenia.
According to him, the Venice Commission president Gianni Buquicchio confirmed that the latest statements and actions of the Armenian political authorities do not comply with the approaches of the Venice Commission on the early retirement of CC judges.
As he noted, this is also a direct signal to Armenian ruling party’s My Step faction to refrain from further actions on the anti-constitutional project put into circulation.
“Nevertheless, I am skeptical that the parliamentary majority will follow this appeal, so soon we will witness tougher statements from Venice and Strasbourg,” he said.
Venice Commission president expressed his concern over the events surrounding the Constitutional Court, while sharing the concerns of the PACE co-rapporteurs.
