The situation today is such that those who can offend people are called for solving the problems in society, while the intelligentsia is constantly passive. This is what first Ombudsman of Armenia, human rights activist Larisa Alaverdyan told reporters today, adding that the literate sector of society must be more active and not let the illiterate people or crowds identify their opinions with the opinions of the entire nation.
Alaverdyan says she has recently noticed how about 18 representatives of the ruling my Step Alliance have been undertaking unlawful and unconstitutional initiatives and that the intelligentsia of society is just responding to those initiatives.
The human rights activist stressed that there is no constitutional crisis in the country, but the government and parliament are in a crisis and are repressing courts. She added that Armenia is in a special situation where courts are mainly independent from the incumbent authorities, but, as experience shows, the authorities don’t need such courts.
