German commissioner for the formerly communist eastern states was fired after supported a lawmaker who briefly became state premier.

Christian Hirte, who belongs to German Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU party, was dismissed after he congratulated Thomas Kemmerich on his victory in Thuringia elections. Kemmerich won with the support of far-right AfD party, BBC reported.

Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert the chancellor had proposed to the federal president the dismissal of Secretary of State Christian Hirte.

Kemmerich’s victory provoked a scandal in Germany, and he announced his resignation just a day after he was elected.
