YEREVAN. -- Over 100 people joined a statement by Armenian human rights activists which is addressed to President Armen Sarkissian.

Lawyer Ruben Melikyan said 105 people had signed a statement that says “the legislature’s decision to designate a referendum is an overt violation of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and constitutional legislation.”

The statement was issued by first Human Rights Defender of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan, President of the Helsinki Committee of Armenia Avetik Ishkhanyan and lawyer Ruben Melikyan.
