At the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians hosted His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan who is on an official visit to Armenia, as reported the Information Service of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
Welcoming the visit of the King of Jordan to Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness voiced hope that this visit will further reinforce the relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, His Holiness, with satisfaction, stated that the sons of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide were able to get back on track in Jordan and made their helpful contributions to the country’s advancement.
Touching upon the fact that the Armenians of Jordan live next to representatives of various cultures and religions due to historical circumstances, His Holiness attached great importance to the close cooperation between the spiritual leaders of different countries.
In his turn, King Abdullah II expressed joy for the meeting and talked about the relations between Christians and Muslims. Touching upon the major role of the Armenian community in Jordan and the Middle East, King Abdullah II voiced hope that the Armenian community of Jordan will become strong through the development of Jordan’s relations with Armenia as well. He also reaffirmed his willingness to continue to support the Armenian Church and the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
King Abdullah II also expressed concerns about the state of affairs and reduction of the Christian presence in the Middle East and particularly the Armenian community of Syria and expressed willingness to provide necessary support to maintain the presence of Christian Armenians.
