The slow pace of the authorities to make constitutional amendments led to tension. This is what Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center Sona Ayvazyan declared during a discussion on the referendum for constitutional amendments today.

According to her, after the revolution in Armenia, people were expecting the new authorities to give a political and legal evaluation of “seizure of power” and make a change in the members of the Constitutional Court.

The analyst added that the most corrupt bodies in Armenia were courts, the mass media and the Prosecutor General’s Office and that the authorities need to deal with other structures after making judicial reforms. “The political opposition understands that it doesn’t have the support that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has, and this is why it will boycott the referendum. However, even if a NO campaign isn’t officially created, there will be a front,” the NGO head concluded.

On April 5, Armenia will hold a referendum for constitutional amendments.
