Germany closed land borders with five neighboring countries - France, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark and Switzerland, amid coronavirus pandemic.

New measures do not apply to freight transport and residents of border areas working in a neighboring country.

The authorities did not tell how long the restrictions would be in effect.

Denmark closed its border with Germany on March 14. Border control on the border between Germany and Austria has been operating since 2015, when the migration crisis erupted.
